Mehr über Camilla Maia 👋
When did you start working on Echometer?
August of 2021, one day after arriving in Germany. That was quite a week for me!
What is your previous work experience / educational background?
I have an undergrad degree in Architecture. I then pivoted to tech and design during my Masters (User Experience). Since 2019 I have been working on startups as a UX / UI Designer.
At Echometer
What do you like/love about working at Echometer?
I love all the opportunities to grow and develop professionally. There is so much space to learn new things and get feedback from others.
What is your favorite retrospective format?
I like the thematic retros, like the summer, winter or holidays ones. Just to get out of the routine with some interesting new questions!
What is your personal highlight that you achieved or experienced while working at Echometer?
I find it incredible that I actually managed to learn front end development while working at Echometer. It has been quite an experience.
What was your first week at Echometer like?
Everything was new to me — I first heard of Shape Up and other ways of working. I also learned a lot about retros and best practices regarding team development in that first week. I also remember we did a tour on those touristic buses around the city of Münster.
What was your first “success” when starting at Echometer?
Getting the visa to work at Echometer — the whole process took almost 6 months. Other than that, my first success was building on the existing designs Echometer had in Figma to start working on our Design System.
What is an interesting thing you learned at Echometer?
How to use Tailwind. And how to give feedback to others.
Personal
How would your friends describe you in 3 words?
“The one you call when things get out of hand.” (More than 3 words… 😄 A second option would be: “the one that has a hard time following rules”… also more than 3 words :P)
What are the values that drive you?
Commitment to what matters, always trying to be better, and being a person today that my future self would be proud of.
What are your top 3 favorite Podcasts/Books?
Fluke, Big Think, and Patrick Boyle. (I am a millennial, I watch YouTube.)
A picture of you as a kid?
I am so German now — first thing that came to my mind was GDPR concerns.
