When did you start working at Echometer?

Felix: I worked as a freelancer in 2019 and started full-time in summer 2020.

What is your previous work experience?

Felix: I completed a dual study program in Business Informatics at Bertelsmann in Gütersloh. Afterwards, I worked for two years as a full-time app developer at a Bertelsmann subsidiary before joining Echometer.

At Echometer

What do you like about working at Echometer?

Felix: Definitely our culture. Everyone can openly talk about challenges and mistakes without judgment. Instead, you get helpful and motivating feedback that helps you grow. 💪

If you could write your own job title, what would it be?

Felix: Probably something like “Full-Stack & UI/UX Developer.” My main role is development, working in every part of our infrastructure.

Your favorite retrospective method or team workshop?

Felix: I love the “Keep, Stop, Start” retro. It’s simple, grounded, and always delivers good results.

Your personal highlight at Echometer?

Felix: Validating a major mockup for a complete redesign of our retro flow. We received great feedback, which showed us we’re working on the right challenges.

What was your first week at Echometer like?

Felix: I quickly realized that I was now much more responsible for the outcome of my work than before.

Your biggest or funniest fuckup at Echometer?

Felix: A customer complained that emails weren’t arriving. Logs showed errors that caused users to be blacklisted. I removed them from the blacklist intending to investigate afterwards — not knowing logs were only stored for six days. Since the issue was older, all evidence disappeared once I removed the blacklist entries.

What is an interesting thing you learned at Echometer?

Felix: A lot — but especially GraphQL. It changed how our frontend (and we as developers) interact with the backend.

Personal

How would your friends describe you in 3 words?

Felix: Logical, Funny, Relaxed.

What values drive you?

Felix: Work takes up a huge part of our lives — we should make the best of it and support others in doing the same.

What are your hobbies?

Felix:

  • Gaming with friends
  • Inline skating through Münster
  • Skill-based hobbies like pen spinning or solving a Rubik’s Cube
  • Looking forward to going to the gym again after the pandemic

A picture of you as a kid?

Felix: This is me — minus the beard.
