Experience report: My internship at Echometer

“I wanted to do an internship where I can work independently, learn a lot and have fun!”

Facts about me:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in Münster (8th semester)
  • 2 month compulsory full-time internship at Echometer
  • Goal: to get to know the start-up life
  • No previous start-up or company experience
  • would do it again and again!

Why I went to Echometer:

Psychology and business creation are not things that are often linked. After my bachelor’s degree in psychology, I really wanted to get a taste of a work life. However, I preferred not to work in a large HR department of a well-established company.

I had little interest in recruitment and employee training. I wanted to know:
How does a company work, ranging from product development to sales?

Which processes are involved? What do you have to worry about? How do you design marketing and sales strategies?

I had no idea about any of this!

But, I’ve been interested in start-ups and company formation for a long time.

That’s why I was so happy when I discovered Echometer.

I had hoped to learn more about the “big picture” in a start-up than in large companies with many individual departments.

And I wanted to look at how to deal with a technical product with a psychological background self-employed can make.

“My tasks were then really very diverse and exciting!”

My tasks:

  • Website design
  • Managing contacts with PR agencies
  • Interviewing existing customers
  • Planning a virtual exhibition stand
  • Customer acquisition on LinkedIn
  • Writing online articles
  • Psychological online workshops
  • etc. etc.

My highlight:

I have a Landing Page created (the first page of a website that you see) for a specific target group. In doing so, I learned a lot about designing good landing pages, the needs of the special target group, and the website tool “WordPress” learned. It was an independent project all around, and since we were addressing potential customers directly with it, it had one very practical Reference!

You’ve never created a website before? You haven’t had anything to do with PR work so far? You have no idea about “business administration”?

If your answer to these questions is “Yes”, don’t worry: I had such thoughts beforehand as well and they were completely unfounded. What’s important is that you Fun and learn new things, that are taught and that you are curious . If you already have marketing or sales skills: great. If not: great for you, because then you will learn a lot here!

Echometer offers:

  • Super cool people on the team
  • Support in individual development
  • Practical experience in marketing and sales
  • Insights into all areas of the start-up
  • Openness to your ideas / participation
  • Experience in agile work
  • Flexible working hours
  • And so much more!

What was really good:

You were entrusted with a lot! For example, I prepared the basis for a five-figure investment decision. In general, I was allowed to do a lot myself and learn new things, and it was perfectly okay to make mistakes - nobody’s perfect.

“An internship has to be fun!”
